Does a land with both a basic land type and a non-basic name count as a basic land for search effects?

The supertype 'Basic' is what makes a land a basic land for search effects like 'search your library for a basic land card.' This is governed by CR 205.4b, which lists Basic as a supertype, and CR 305.6, which clarifies that the land types Plains, Island, Swamp, Mountain, and Forest are 'basic land types' — but having one of those subtypes does not grant the Basic supertype.

Many non-basic lands have been printed with basic land types. For example, the Ravnica shock lands (like Sacred Foundry) have subtypes Mountain and Plains, which means they can be found by effects that fetch a land with a specific basic land type (e.g., 'search for a Plains'). However, they do NOT have the Basic supertype, so they cannot be found by effects that say 'search for a basic land' (CR 701.19 covers searching).

Conversely, the five basic lands (Forest, Island, etc.) printed in standard sets have both the Basic supertype AND the corresponding basic land type. A card like Breeding Pool has the Island and Forest subtypes but lacks Basic, so it fails a 'basic land' search.

Concrete example: Your opponent plays Cultivate, which says 'search your library for up to two basic land cards.' Breeding Pool (Island/Forest, but non-basic) cannot be fetched. However, a regular Forest can, because it has the Basic supertype. If instead the effect said 'search for a Forest card,' Breeding Pool would qualify because it has the Forest subtype (CR 305.6).

The condition to watch: some search effects say 'basic land type' rather than 'basic land' — those care about the subtype (Plains, Island, etc.), not the supertype. Always read the search effect carefully to determine which criterion applies (CR 109.2, 205.4b).
